About | Loyalist House is a home of the 18th century located in Saint John, NB. This house belongs to a merit family. Construction was concluded in 1817. The house was built in the New England Federalist style, keeping with its owners' cultural background. Five generations of the Merritt family lived in the home before selling it to the New Brunswick Historical Society in 1958. In 1961, it was opened as a house museum, and many of the featured artifacts belonged to the Merritt family as they lived here. Loyalist House remains one of Saint John’s only buildings from a time that has never been structurally altered. |
