| About | The historic Kirkfield Lift Lock is located in the north of the Village Kirkfield. With a lift of 15 metres (49 ft), it is the 2nd most giant water lift lock globally. It describes lumber settlements, agricultural villages and the Canadian Shield's stunning pre-Cambrian scenery. The lock is situated at the highest point along the waterway at 256.20 meters (840.5 ft) above sea level. Visitors can walk the grounds surrounding the canal or climb to the top of the lift to see it in operation as it lowers or lifts boating traffic on the waterway. Many boaters tend to sit at the lower reach to escape the stairs and obtain easy access to the toilets. |
