| About | Notre-Dame-des-Victoires is one of the oldest churches built in stone and still has its same walls. There were difficulties for parishioners to wait for Mass during winter, so Msgr François de Laval obtained land to build a second church. The church's construction started in 1688 and was completed by 1723. The ornamentation and ex-votos are pieces of art as thanksgiving for favours. By 1855, the church was designated as a Marian sanctuary. Notre-Dame-des-Victoires continues the old tradition of cooking little balls of bread. By 1929, the church was listed as a historical monument and remain a popular tourist attraction. During this Mass, the priest blesses these little bread of St. Genevieve to be given to the people who will come during the year. These bread symbolize trust in God and sharing with the poor. |
