| About | Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral is the first church made of stone and the most extensively expanded structure in history. The church was declared a basilica, a church privileged because of the number of pilgrimages it draws. By 1759, the church was bombarded and burned by the British. It was rebuilt and added various decorative parts during the following decades. By 1922, the church was burned again and rebuilt with old plans; additionally, a crypt was added. With strong European roots, this church stays as the ancestor of all the Catholic parishes across Canada. Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral has unique features like stained glass windows, chancel golden sculptures, two asymmetrical towers, and three Casavant organs. Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral is also a place where concerts, recitals and exhibitions are presented throughout the year. |
