| About | Church of the Apostles is one of the famous churches in Launceston. The church was founded in 1864 and opened by Rev. Murphy, Bishop of Hobart. The church was committed to Mary, Queen of the Apostles. The church building of the North section, including the transept, protection and sacristies, began several years later. Bishop Murphy laid the foundation stone on 17 June 1888. Church of the Apostles stone for the tower was founded in May 1889. The bell tower and spire were installed in 1989 and designed by Melbourne architect Peter Staunton. The church maintains its original stone high altar. The stage, made from blackwood and huon pine, was the work of Timothy Earley. Church of the Apostles pipe organ and in two flanking columns was committed in 1933. |
