About | Katy? Memorial is a bronze statue created by Polish-American sculptor Andrzej Pitynski in dedication to the victims of the 1940 Katyn massacre. The monument memorializes the massacre of over 20,000 Polish soldiers at Stalin's orders after the Soviet Union had invaded Poland in 1940. More than 7,000 Polish prisoners were killed personally by Stalin's chief executioner Vasily Mikhailovich Blokhin, making it the most prolific mass murderer in world history. The truly disturbing memorial is the gleaming contemporary buildings, bars, and park benches lining the waterfront. The knitted soldier statue resembles one that was found more commonly behind the old Iron Curtain. The Jersey statue violently captures the terrible events that have taken place in the KatyForest. |
