| About | Honolulu Zoo is built on the part of the 300-acre royal Queen Kapiolani Park, and it is the only zoo in the US to be established by grants made by a sovereign monarch. Linda Santos, the current Zoo Director, has been at the zoo since the 1970s and is committed to making the zoo a place of refuge and wonder for residents and visitors. Annually 601,510 people visit the zoo. It contains over 1,230 animals in specially designed habitats. In the 1990s, their exhibits were redesigned to feature more natural settings for the animals, showing another revival of enthusiasm. Honolulu Zoo's mission is to inspire stewardship of their living world by providing conservation, education, and meaningful experiences to their community. The zoo ensures free recreation grounds for the benefit of Hawai’s residents and visitors. |
