About | Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is the 9,000 people from Cuyahoga County who supported the Union during the American Civil War. The monument serves as a unique example of late 19th-century architecture. It contains a 125 'column and is enclosed by a Memorial Room and esplanade at its base. The column is made of polished black Quincy stone with Six bronze foliated bands that list the names of 30 battles fought by soldiers from this area. You can see the monument room, light gray granite and light brown Amherst sandstone, the esplanade & red sandstone medina stairs. It affords free entry. |
