About | Diamond Head is a natural cone on Oahu's Hawaiian island and is the most famous Hawaiian state park. The trail leads visitors to the summit of the volcanic tuff cone and former fort with panoramic views. The British soldiers who toured the area in the 19th century believed that the sparkling calcite crystals on the nearby beach were diamonds. Diamond Head stands at an elevation of 762 feet above sea level. The park has breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Honolulu that you can walk along a path that leads you to the bottom of the 300,000-year-old crater. The crater occupies 350 acres. The last activity of the volcanic tuff cone was possibly between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. It took 1.5-2 hours for Diamond Head to walk 1.6 miles (2.5 km). |
