| About | The Solway Aviation Museum located at the Carlisle Lake District Airport. It is home to over twenty aircraft with the star of the displays Avro Vulcan XJ823 a B2 MRR variant. During normal days visitors are allowed into the cockpit for a guided tour. The museum provides a oneway system for safety and allowing visitors to see some of the aircraft on the odd occasion. Inside the museum, you will walk through a WW2 air raid shelter taking you back in time to 1941 and you can also get information on the surrounding airfields of Cumberland, Westmorland, Barrow in Furness and Dumfriesshire. There are also displays of RAF Crosby and aircraft armaments, moving through the gift shop you then arrive at the aircraft engine area with displays of early piston engines to powerful jet engines and then go into the Bluestreak Rocket room with displays of the British rocket program of the ’50s & ’60s. Following the corridor, you will come to the annual display room., which keep changes year by year. |
