| About | Reading Abbey is a large and ruined abbey, which was founded by Henry I in 1121. If you are interested in the Civil War and Henry VIII, then Reading Abbey is the perfect place to get information about the war. It has a small selection of artefacts from the site and the river. The inner rubble cores of the walls of many of the major buildings of the abbey still stand. The Abbey's Inner Gateway adjoins Reading Crown Court and Forbury Gardens, also known as the Abbey Gateway.
