About | Grimsby Dock Tower is a unique and admiring landmark located in North East Lincolnshire region, UK. The tower is an iconic landmark of the area, which was opened on 27 March 1852. James William Wild designed the tower, which based its appearance on the Torre del Mangia on the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena. The building is now becoming an attraction for visitors, one of Grimsby's Water Towers. Grimsby Dock Tower was built to provide water pressure to power the hydraulic machinery (for cranes, lock gates and sluices) at the Grimsby Docks. The tower offers pressurized water to push the dock gates hydraulics and comprises 30,000 gallons of 100 imperial pounds water pressure per square inch. The Tower's Hydraulic pressure was more significant, permitting more compact and everything was at ground level. Queen Victoria opened the world's highest secular building of such national importance. |
