About | Wilberforce House is the birthplace of William Wilberforce, who is a prominent campaigner against the slave trade. The museum tells the story of the transatlantic slave trade and its abolition and dealing with contemporary slavery. Originally, it was the Merchant's house; and now it is part of Hull's Museums Quarter incorporating the Nelson Mandela garden. The house has become a museum that shows the lifestyle of one of the most famous sons of Hull. Their galleries also display a fascinating glimpse into West African culture. Wilberforce House is known as a building listed as Grade I. The front garden of the museum features a Wilberforce statue that was restored in 2011. The house also contains the East Yorkshire regimental collection. |
