About | Claypotts Castle is the quirkiest castle in Dundee, United Kingdom. This castle is one of the well-preserved models of a 16th-century Z-plan tower residence in Scotland. Claypotts Castle was initially built by John Strachan around 1569–1588. The land on which the castle was constructed was initially leased by the Strachan family from the Tironensian Abbey of Lindores starting in the early 16th century. It consists of projecting towers at different sides of a quadrangular main block, known as a Z-plan tower house. Claypotts most striking highlights are its detailed elevations. It owes its state of maintenance to consistent occupation for nearly 500 years of its life. Claypotts Castle is managed as an Ancient Statue by Historic Environment Scotland. |
