About | The Norman Castle of Canterbury is one of the three original Kent Royal Castles. The Castle's first floor had a great hall and kitchen. This solid stone structure is 80 feet high, measuring approximately 98 by 85 feet. The castle had become the county gaol and one of the three original royal palaces of Kent in the 13th century. In the 19th century, a gas company had obtained it and used it as a storage centre for gas for many years, during which time the top floor was destroyed. It is a five-minute walk from Canterbury East Station and the main bus station. It offers free admission for your enjoyment. |
