About | Charminar is the most prominent landmark of Hyderabad. In 1951, it was built by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah constructed in memory of his wife, Bhagmati. Charminar is a square-shaped structure with four pillars and intricate carvings. It was built according to a common belief to acknowledge the elimination of the plague, which had affected the entire city immensely during that era. It also has a secret underground tunnel that connects Charminar to the Golconda Fort, built for the royal family to escape emergencies. It is also a site of numerous festival celebrations, such as Eid-ul-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. Charminar is also called as Mosque of the four minarets. |
