About	Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple is the chief of Lord Vishnu's eight self-manifested sanctuaries (Swayam Vyakta Kshetras). The temple is also recognised as the foremost important of the 108 chief temples of Vishnu (Divyadesam). The temple has seven prakaras and twenty-one magnificent towers give a unique view for all prakaras. The temple is located on an islet formed by the Cauvery and Coleroon twin rivers. The temple's Gopuram consists of gold and is therefore covered by an electric fence. The temple complex is 156 acres in extent.
