The temple has two principal god idols, and one of them is decorated with gold. The Pongala Mahotsavam is Attukal Bhagavathy Temple's most important festival. The temple has Guinness history to its name; 3million women come to the temple to prepare and give Pongala to Kannaki every year during the Pongal Festival. The ten-day program starts on the Karthika star of Makaram-Kumbham's Malayalam month (February-March) and ends at night with the sacrificial offering known as Kuruthitharpanam. |
