| About | The city of Orillia-City Hall is the administration offices in the storied Tudhope building, which has a long history of industrial operations dating back to the beginning of the 20th century when it housed the carriage and automobile manufacturing operations of the Tudhope Motor Company. In July 1997, the City of Orillia established its municipal offices in the western half of the restored downtown factory. In 2001, this part of the building was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act as a property of cultural heritage value. During preservation and renovation, a state-of-the-art Council Chamber with a seating capacity of 135 was added to the structure. The upper floors have been developed into upscale apartments, and the lower levels provide classroom, lab, and library space for the downtown campus of Lakehead University. |
