| About | The Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the largest and oldest standing churches in the nation's capital. The church provides guided tours for individuals or groups from mid-May to mid-October. The Bytown diocese was established in 1847. In 1860, the name changed to Ottawa's diocese, and in 1886 it became an archdiocese. The Notre Dame Cathedral is a masterpiece created entirely by their architects and sculptors. The archdiocese currently has 131 diocesan and 58 religious priests, 638 religious brothers and sisters, 71 permanent deacons and an ever-increasing number of lay pastoral staff serving the international Catholic population of nearly 400,000 Catholics in 110 parishes and missions. The Notre Dame Cathedral of Ottawa is a masterpiece rendered entirely by their architects and sculptors. |
