| About | Chifley Home is a heritage building, the former residence of Prime Minister Ben Chifley and his wife, Elizabeth. It was built from 1887 to 1891. It offers an experience of everyday life in the 1940s. Its original collection of household furnishings, kitchenware and personal effects dates back to when the Chifley's first occupied the house in 1914. The house consists of two rooms: a parlour, dining room, kitchenette and pantry, and a bathroom at the rear, which is accessed by an enclosed verandah. The house and contents are almost unchanged from the time of occupation of the Chifleys and Elizabeth Chifley's companion, Isabel Clark. |
