About	St Mary's Cathedral is an English style, Perpendicular Gothic architecture designed by MF Cavanagh. The church's foundation stone was laid and was opened officially in 1930. The cathedral is an icon of the City of Perth, which is the most visited place in Australia. St Mary's Cathedral building was built using limestone, and the stained glass windows were designed by John Hardman of Birmingham, England. During the cathedral's construction, progress was slowed down by labour and fund shortages, but it was boosted, and the construction got completed within several years. The church central altar and pulpit were added to the sanctuary. The redesigned sanctuary was consecrated on 12 August 1973. St Mary's Cathedral marble altar from the old cathedral was relocated to the expanded cathedral's sanctuary during renovation.
